I do two kinds of consulting.
measurement & survey design
If your work involves asking people to rate things on a scale — customer satisfaction, political attitudes, content moderation, RLHF preference ratings — I can help you think about what those numbers actually mean and how to interpret them correctly. This is what my research is about, and it turns out the standard practices are worse than most people realize.
I can help you design better surveys, audit your existing ones, and analyze your data so you can get a fuller picture. I’m also available for talks and workshops for research teams.
writing
I’ve written for The New York Times, The New Republic, and The Daily Beast, and I’ve spent a lot of time helping other people express themselves clearly in writing. I worked for seven years as a Writing Consultant at Yale’s Graduate Writing Lab, where I worked with students across all disciplines on dissertation chapters, theses, fellowship applications, Op-Eds, journal articles, and even book manuscripts. I ran yearly workshops for NSF GRFP applications as well as personal statement workshops for the Yale Psychology Department’s Sneak Peek Program.
I’m especially useful if you’re trying to translate technical work for a general audience, how to structure your publication and frame your findings, or need some feedback on a fellowship or grant application.
