about

I’m a postdoctoral researcher at Yale University. I’ve spent the last seven years as a Writing Consultant at Yale’s Graduate Writing Lab, where I worked with hundreds of students across every discipline — on dissertations, journal articles, fellowship applications, and personal statements.

I ran yearly workshops for NSF Graduate Research Fellowship applications and personal statement workshops for Yale Psychology’s graduate admissions program. Before Yale, I was published in The New York Times, The New Republic, and The Daily Beast.

I also spent a year mentoring advanced high school students through a structured research program — guiding them from reading scientific papers through writing their own college-level research reports.

What I’m good at: understanding what you’re trying to say and helping you say it more clearly, in your own voice. I won’t rewrite your essay for you. I’ll help you figure out what makes your story compelling and how to tell it well.

what people have said

“Vlad is really good at understanding what I’m trying to communicate and finding stronger ways to accomplish that, but while still maintaining my own voice.”

“Not only did he improve my draft, he also made me more confident about resubmitting it.”

“He is super fast and really gets at redundancies and wobbly sentences… he has a generous and accepting approach — I feel comfortable running any idea by him and he will gracefully suggest improvements.”

“Vlad offers a wonderful balance of grammatical edits, organizational suggestions and wonderful writing tips along the way.”

“While this was a writing consultation, he also had feedback on my ideas and honest feedback as a reader with a psychology background.”

frequently asked questions

Will you write my essay for me?

No. Your essay needs to sound like you, and admissions officers are very good at spotting essays that don’t. I’ll give you detailed feedback on what’s working, what isn’t, and how to make it better — but you do the writing. That’s also what makes the essay actually good.

What kinds of essays do you review?

Common App personal statements, Coalition essays, supplemental essays (Why This School, community, activity, etc.), UC PIQs, scholarship essays, and anything else that’s part of a college application.

When should I start?

The earlier the better. Most students benefit from starting over the summer before senior year. The Common App opens August 1, and early decision deadlines are typically November 1. That said, I work with students at every stage — if you have a draft due next week, I can help with that too.
